Question for the Ford members of GSRA, I recently tried to find an aluminum intake manifold for my 65 Thunderbird. I found that Weiand, Edelbrock and Blue Thunder made the part. Problems with Weiand and Edelbrock was the port size fit only the 67 and up FE 390 and Blue Thunder only had med to high rise manifolds. I need a dual plane, low rise, single 4bbl, intake aluminum manifold. What are pre 67 FE 390 Ford lovers doing to solve this problem?
Thanks for your time. |

The later manifolds have smaller ports and will work just fine on the older heads. The step is from smaller to larger, the step just acts as a revison pulse dam. It's going from large to small that is a no-no. FYI, the smaller ports increases the air flow velocity which improves low end preformance without hurting the top end.
Also if you dont buy an intake made for the bird which I know none of...all FE intakes the carb pad is slanted..except for the t-bird runs flat if I remember right...and I have seen somewhere the wedge spacer to run on them to make em flat..as there motor sets flat in the early birds...
go to summitracing.com and post EDL-7105 in the search field.
Hope this helps |

| Thanks JD. Your memory serves you good, the intake manifold does have a slanted intake for the carb. I decided to put the original cast iron back on the car but will keep your posting for the future. Thanks again for the feedback, its appreciated. DW |
